Black Before Blue
Black Before Blue creates a space for intimate conversations among twenty-one Black retired and active police officers as they reveal the racial and gender discrimination they've faced within the department. Commissioned to compose a minimalist, piano-driven score, the music blends jazz harmony and textured vocals with a fusion of modern and Romantic-era influences, drawing inspiration from Debussy, Terence Blanchard, and Nicholas Britell to underscore the depth and complexity of their experiences.
